The Shih-Tzu is one of the oldest dog breeds, originating in Tibet thousands of years ago. Known as the “lion dog”, these small lap dogs were prized by royalty as household pets.
Shih-Tzus are affectionate companion and family animals, known to live long, healthy lives.
They prefer to be indoors and, while often docile and quiet, are also playful and spunky.

Due to their size and personality, Shih-Tzu puppies require extra care and attention during training, housebreaking and when socializing with other dogs. For this reason, a Shih-Tzu puppy may not be the best choice for first time dog owners - they need an owner who knows how to train and socialize the regal canines. This is a clever breed that learns quickly and is a joy to train. Don’t forget grooming. If you want your Shih-Tzu to look its best, then you have to bring them into the groomer on a regular basis.
